Blog Post 2 - Cindy sherman

Cindy Sherman was born January 19th 1954 in New Jersey which is a small suburb in New York, she is the youngest of 5 children. She was never into arts and photography before college as her father did not allow it until she started college, however she is now an american photographer and film director.  

Cindy is best known for her conceptual portraits. The majority of her photographs are pictures of her, however, these photographs are definitely not self-portraits.
Cindy also does photographs labelled as 'Sex Pictures' she started this concept in 1922 but does not use herself in these pictures like she does in the others. Instead she uses prosthetic dolls.

Photo 1 - this photograph is interesting as it features Cindy Sherman in a kind of 'sexual' light. i like this photo because of the vintage feel about it in the way she has edited it.

Photo 2 - This photo is probably my favorite of all 3 as it doesn't look staged even if it is. The black and white gives this a more edgy effect. You can tell this photo was taken in the 80's without even researching it, which i like.

Photo 3 - This photo is the 'Sex photo's' that Cindy has been doing recently and i think it works really well. Most photographers would use real people for these kind of photo's but the fact she used prosthetic dolls makes this different to other peoples.
